Two perspectives of how BREXIT may effect Britain

At the Neale-Wade Academy in March, we interviewed Morgan (17) regarding BREXIT and the effects it may have on the UK and the European Union itself.

On the 23rd June 2016, Britain voted to leave the EU (51.9% Leave to 48.1% Remain) which disappointed Remain Supporters subsequently, leading to protests in cities such as London. In the next few days, it is believed that Theresa May will invoke Article 50 to start the process of leaving the EU.

The Queen has now given Royal Assent to go ahead with BREXIT.

Morgan organised a School Referendum last year amongst students to get an indication whether the Academy as a collective, wanted to leave the European Union. The outcome has shown that students wanted to remain part of the Union.

In the school referendum, Morgan voted to remain part of the EU and he believes that the effects of BREXIT will be mainly negative on the UK Economy and also, for the twenty-eight EU Member States.

What will happen after Britain leaves the EU is unclear at the moment but, what we do know is that it will be one of the biggest reforms in the history of British Politics.

This morning, it was confirmed that Sainsbury Plc's Shares have dropped by almost one percent - Morgan believed this was due to the increase in costs from suppliers such as Unilever who produce brands such as Lynx, Hellman's, Knorr and Ben and Jerry's.

In one newspaper, today, unemployment rates have hit an 'All time low' of people out of work since 1975 which we believe is a positive effect of BREXIT. But, Morgan argued that he felt that workers were on Zero Hour Contracts where companies are not obliged to give working hours. In recent weeks, the government announced that the minimum wage was to increase to £7.50 per hour - He claims that most of the people in work will only receive the Minimum Wage set out by the government.

Although Toyota is a Japanese Owned Company, they have decided to invest £240 Million in manufacturing within the UK despite BREXIT fears of the pound dropping in value against other currencies.

Is this a sign that companies are willing to work in partnership with Britain with a new trade deal?

The rise of the right-wing politician, Marine Le Pen has said that she will give France a referendum if she becomes President - Will this be the collapse of the EU?

We've interviewed Mr Gaskins who is a member of senior leadership at Neale-Wade Academy (and will be the principal at a new school in Littleport) in regards to BREXIT to head his comments - How will BREXIT effect schools within the UK? Schools in England, Scotland and Wales are already underfunded and are having to make cuts to GCSE Subjects especially Languages to make the money they're given last. He openly admits that he feels that politically, schools should receive sufficient funds to ensure pupils education is the best that it can be for a better future: Mr Gaskins was very much against BREXIT and felt that this may discourage foreign staff and pupils saying that it's 'inevitable' and mentioned he didn't want to work in just an 'English' school - He wants a European School so pupils and staff can learn more about other cultures and mix with people that may have a different background to them. He feels that foreign people bring something to to every walk of life - Our high streets, hospitals, schools and communities. Mr Gaskins has said that he feels disheartened that Britain will continue with BREXIT and hopes that Britain can negotiate Free Movement of People even after we leave the EU.
