Dracula Spectacula sure to be a spine-chilling show

Auditions takes to the stage ‘So if you feel cosy with Bella Lugosi, this is the show for you!’ Enthusiastic pupils at Neale-Wade Academy have daringly decided to take on a spooky, blood-curdling musical for this year’s school production. The Dracula Spectacula will take to the stage in July, providing a grand finale to the academic year.

As this morning’s final auditions got underway, a student told us that there is a chance for everyone to get involved; there are jobs behind the scenes for those who are nervous about taking centre stage.

Interviewing the hopefuls

One of the make-up artists for the show said, “There are a lot of people required: actors, make-up artists, costume designers and people to work on props.” She added that rehearsals are held weekly during term time because there are so many roles in the musical and training involved to make sure students give a polished performance.

“This is an exciting and new experience for us since we’ve not done a musical before. It will be challenging, but fun,” said the student who has landed the prize role of the noble ‘Nick’. He’s been involved in previous school plays and told us that he’s never done anything like this but is looking forward to rehearsals.

Directing the play is Mrs Liversedge, who has had a lot of experience in directing school productions and teaching drama. Alongside her is Mr Jones, a professional actor and director. These two teachers are definitely capable of producing a spectacular, musical extravaganza guaranteed to wow audiences of excited family and friends.

The show features musical numbers such as: ‘Fly Transylvania Airways’, ‘Just the Way She Likes Me’, ‘Positive Action Man’ and many more to make the audience groove in their seats.

Interestingly, famous actor Tim Roth once played the lead role in ‘Dracula Spectacula’ when he was at school, so you never know, maybe one of our students will become a celebrity film star from these modest beginnings. Everyone has to start somewhere!
