Mrs Holdich’s Gardening club is a fully independent club supported only by prizes from contests or donations of pots and seeds. The Students grow multiple Plants Such as Rhubarb, Grapes Olives, Petunias, Lettuce and Strawberries. Mrs Holdich has always been a fan of gardening and thought it would help all years of Neale-Wade. I asked her how she personally thinks this will benefit year 6 and 7 as those are the main years that attend she said:
“I think it builds teamwork skills and helps them learn how to plan and work together in unity. It helps year 6 by teaching them about where there food comes from and increases there awareness of nature but gives them a chance to have fun.”
I also asked her why she was personally involved with this club she said she loves gardening.
“I started this club with help from Mrs Mays (six form tutor) and Mrs Liversedge (Drama) and eventually picked up Mrs Fogarty alone the way. Mrs Mays is the party coordinator for when they have their summer parties with all the freshly made produce.
On a weekly basis 7 students attend on Wednesdays after school I asked some of them why they mentoring year 6 as our student go to Westwood School every week Amy said “Because we think it is vital to teach younger generations gardening skills.”
