Catching Cancer

A few weeks ago Mr Page announced in assembly he is currently supporting a charity called My Shining Star Children's Cancer Charity. Since August, Mr Page has arranged lots of fishing trips with friends and family and then asking them to make a donation for the privilege, with some paying as much as £50. Mr Page told us “People have been contacting me about this through the Facebook page I set up for the trips and I’ve also been speaking to people I know in person throughout the year”.

Mr Page chose to focus on this particular charity after hearing the story of boy a who was diagnosed with Cancer, Charlie is eleven-years-old who has and has a similar condition as the famous Bradley Lowerly (who died recently from neuroblastoma) of be ‘be more Bradley’ fame .

On Friday the 29th of September, staff and Students changed one item of their uniform and clothing to wear something either blue or gold. Then during form time they donated a minimum of £1 to go to the charity to help Charlie and other children affected by Cancer. Students also organised a bake sale which pupils were able to buy cakes from the atrium at break and lunch times.

“The school has raised £830 in total” and Mr Page added “with the fishing trips I’ve raised an additional £310” but he is hoping with the schools support he can raise even more as he is planning to continue fundraising until March 2018!

When asked what was the best thing about the fundraising day Mr Page said “Several things stick in my mind. Driving to School witnessing so many pupils wearing something Blue or Gold. We had so many cakes made by pupils and parents it was amazing! The general behaviour on the day and interest in the charity from our pupils was also of a high standard.”
